Amarante Golf sits within the Quinta da Deveza, close to the historic town of Amarante, at 600 metres above sea level with the River Tâmega and the Marão mountains as a backdrop. Opened in 1997, the course was designed by the Portuguese architect Jorge Santana da Silva, who worked with the mountainous terrain rather than levelling it.
That terrain defines the round. Fairways run steeply up and down throughout, starting with a downhill par-5 1st and closing with a steep uphill par-5 18th. The par-5 12th demands a strong tee shot to clear a lake on the right, with out of bounds waiting on the left. With three par 5s, eight par 4s and seven par 3s, the course plays to a short par 68, but the elevation change means shot-making and club selection matter more than raw length. A buggy is strongly recommended given the terrain, and useful for anyone less mobile.
Four water hazards and consistently fast greens, most of them on the shorter side, round out the challenge. The clubhouse and restaurant have a reputation for a warm welcome. For golfers exploring northern Portugal who want mountain scenery and a genuinely different test from the coastal courses further south, Amarante is well worth the detour.

An old favorite of our group, beautifully situated in the mountainous surroundings! Even though we have played this golf course quite a few times now, the first hole remains a huge challenge every year, and if you're not careful, a real ball eater!

My friends and I discovered Amarante Golfing years ago and it is the reason we played golf for a week in the north of Portugal! The course is beautifully situated in the area and excellently maintained. The reception by the Caddymaster is exceptionally friendly. The restaurant offers a pleasant beer with delicious local snacks after the round of golf. We will definitely go back!

Interesting course, not long but challenging. Several blind shots and up and downs into small but well maintained greens.
Not easy to navigate for a first time but you need to remember yellow flags on the front and red on the back nine.
Extremely friendly and helpfull staff.

Greens corrects , fairways moyens
Accueil très sympathique au clubhouse comme au restaurant personnel au top !
